Economic performance

Luxembourg reacted with purpose to the crisis that hit the world in 2008. As a small, open economy, the country has suffered along with its trading partners, but it has also shown its ability to react in the face of adversity. The government acted to shore-up the banking sector and financial support programmes have helped manufacturing companies maintain a degree of stability.

In recent decades, the country has consistently out-performed neighbouring countries on economic performance with strong growth and low unemployment. As times become tougher local and international organisations alike predict an above average performance for Luxembourg.

Financial services (mainly investment fund administration and international private banking) will remain the mainstay of the economy but the other high-value adding sectors will continue to make a major contribution.
