Luxembourg’s Government nominated Gaston Reinesch as the new head of the country’s central bank, replacing Yves Mersch who is leaving for a role on the European Central Bank’s executive board.
Mr. Reinesch, 54, studied at the London School of Economics and is a senior administrator in the Finance Ministry of Luxembourg, as well as a Guest Professor of Economics at the University of Luxembourg.
He holds many positions in Luxembourg, notably as chairman of SNCI, a state-owned bank specialising in medium and long-term financing. He is also Chairman of Luxembourg’s leading retail bank BGL BNP Paribas and is a member of the Board of Directors of the European Investment Bank, and satellite company SES SA.
